Frequently Asked Questions
The questions we hear most. Don't see yours? Call us, we'll answer it.
How long does a new roof take to install?
Most residential roofs are 2 to 4 working days. A Welsh slate strip-and-relay on a Victorian terrace takes longer than a like-for-like concrete tile replacement. Listed-property work with Yorkshire stone slate and lime mortar pointing runs longer again. We confirm timeline at quote stage.
How much does a new roof cost?
Costs vary by size, materials, and complexity. A concrete tile re-roof on a typical Yorkshire semi runs £3,500 to £6,500. Welsh slate on a Victorian terrace is £8,000 to £14,000. Yorkshire stone slate on a Pennine-edge listed property is more again. We provide written quotes after a free site visit. No surprises.
Do you handle insurance claims?
Yes. Storm damage gets documented with photos and a detailed scope, we work direct with your adjuster, and we have handled hundreds of claims. We do not inflate scope or negotiate against your interest. We give the adjuster accurate documentation.
What warranties do you offer?
Manufacturer material warranty (30 to 50 years on concrete tile and Welsh slate, depending on product) plus our 10-year workmanship warranty on all installs. Warranty terms in writing before work starts.
Are you insured?
Yes. We carry public liability cover and full employers' liability cover. You can request copies of certificates anytime. We are also Checkatrade Approved (member since August 2023, 10 out of 10 on Checkatrade) and were named Three Best Rated Roofing Contractors in Rotherham for 2024.
What if I have a leak right now?
Call us on 0114 555 0123. We respond the same day and can usually tarp or stop active leaks within 48 hours, with a full repair scheduled after that.
Do I need to be home during the work?
No. We can work while you're at work or away. We confirm access and any specific instructions before we start.
What about cleanup?
Ground protection goes down before work starts, the skip is filled and lifted on the last day, and the site is swept and left tidy. Part of the workmanship standard, not an extra.
Do I need planning permission for a new roof?
For most like-for-like replacements: no. Re-roofing in the same materials is usually permitted development. Listed buildings and properties in conservation areas often need consent. The Penistone, Cawthorne, and Wentworth conservation areas around the borough are common ones we work in. We flag this at the site visit and liaise with your local planning office where needed.
What about Building Regulations?
Re-roofing more than 25% of a roof slope must comply with Approved Document L (thermal performance: typically requires upgraded insulation). Building Control sign-off is the standard route. We talk you through the certificate process at the site visit.
Do you specialise in chimney work?
Yes. Chimney work makes up the single biggest part of our calendar: stack rebuilds, lead flashing renewals, repointing in lime mortar, new pots and cowls, and leak chases that other roofers have given up on. Most of our Google reviews mention chimney work specifically. Every Pennine chimney rebuild gets the same finishing touch: the little carved bird figurine goes on top while the mortar cures.
What areas do you cover?
Yorkshire borough (South Yorkshire) and the S36 Pennine-edge villages around Penistone. We also cover the Rotherham borough across S63 (Wath-upon-Dearne, Brampton, Swinton) and S65 / S66 around Rotherham town, where we hold our Three Best Rated 2024 award and Checkatrade approval. If you are nearby and not on the list, call and ask.
