Frequently Asked Questions
The questions we hear most. Don't see yours? Call us, we'll answer it.
How long does a new roof take?
Most domestic re-roofs are 3 to 5 working days. A simple bungalow can be 2 days; a larger semi with chimney work and full underlay replacement can run a week. We confirm timeline in writing at quote stage.
How much does a new roof cost in Oxford?
Costs depend on size, materials, and access. A standard concrete-tile re-roof on a 1930s semi typically falls between £4,000 and £8,000. Natural slate and clay tile run higher; reclaimed Cotswold stone (for Witney and Abingdon conservation work) higher again. We give written quotes after a free site visit. No verbal numbers, no surprises.
Do you handle insurance claims?
Yes. We document storm damage with photos and a written scope of works, talk directly to your loss adjuster, and have handled plenty of claims for Oxford homeowners. We give the adjuster accurate documentation. We do not pad the scope to get the claim over the excess.
What warranties do you offer?
Manufacturer material warranty (20 to 50 years depending on product) plus our 10-year workmanship guarantee on all installs. Warranty terms are in writing before any work starts.
Are you insured?
Yes. Full public liability and employer's liability insurance. You can request copies of the certificates at any time.
What if I have a leak right now?
Call 07779 499937. We respond within 24 hours and can usually tarp or temporarily stop active leaks within 48 hours, with the proper repair scheduled after that.
Do I need to be home during the work?
No. We can work while you're at work or away. We agree access and any specific instructions before we start.
What about cleanup?
We sheet landscaping, use ground protection where needed, and do a magnetic sweep for nails when finished. The site is left as we found it. That's part of the workmanship, not an extra.
Do I need planning permission for a new roof?
For most like-for-like replacements: no. Re-roofing in the same materials is usually permitted development. Listed buildings and properties in Oxford's conservation areas (Central Oxford, North Oxford Victorian Suburb, Jericho, Old Headington, Iffley, plus the Witney and Abingdon centres) often need consent. We flag this at the site visit and can liaise with the council's planning office. Material changes that alter the roof's appearance can also need permission.
What about Building Regulations?
Re-roofing more than 25 per cent of a roof slope must comply with Approved Document L (thermal performance, which usually means upgraded insulation). We handle the spec at quote stage and provide the paperwork for your records.
